HOT YOGA · PREPARATION
What do you need for hot yoga?
You can keep the setup simple: breathable clothing, water, a yoga mat, and a towel. A little preparation helps you focus on the class instead of your gear.
The essentials
- A yoga mat with reliable grip
- Water in a closed, easy-to-use bottle
- A towel for sweat and an optional mat towel
- Lightweight clothing that stays comfortable when damp
- A dry change of clothes for afterward
Prepare before class
Hydrate throughout the day rather than trying to catch up immediately before class. If you sweat heavily, adding electrolytes to your water and drinking it before class can be a helpful part of your preparation. Eat according to what feels comfortable for you and avoid arriving overly full.
Choose clothing for movement
Test the outfit through bends, lunges, and wide stances. Look for coverage, support, and a fit that does not require repeated adjustment.
You do not need premium equipment to begin. A secure mat and practical clothing matter more than matching accessories.
During the class
Start at a manageable intensity, take breaks, and step out of the heat if you feel dizzy, faint, nauseated, confused, or unusually unwell. Tell the instructor if you are new or need modifications.
After class
Cool down, replace fluids, and change out of wet clothing. Give yourself time to notice how your body responds before adding another demanding activity.
