From the journey

Come home with
more than memories.

Reflections from guests who have traveled with Purple Yoga.

We could not have asked for a better teacher and leader to take us on this retreat. Sahara went above and beyond (as is her usual custom) to make this retreat special for us and the entire group. Each yoga session was unique and challenging in new ways and we had such a wonderful time practicing with Sahara, who spares no detail in crafting each experience. But what made this retreat over-the-top special was Sahara’s generous and caring spirit to ensure we were cared for both on and off the yoga mat. Thank you for having a talented team of teachers at Purple Yoga and especially for giving us the opportunity and pleasure to practice with Sahara on this memorable retreat. We are looking forward to our next retreat/adventure with Sahara.

Shahab · Mexico retreat

This was my first retreat ever- Alex is a true professional and it shows in his ease of navigating a foreign country, the support he provides the group and creating a sense of harmony even when things do not necessarily go as planned. He is flexible, observant and very kind. I would do another retreat with Alex again!

Megan A. · Retreat guest

The Greece retreat was amazing! Alex is a kind, fun, and a knowledgeable leader. The schedule was a perfect amount of planned activities and free time. Alex’s experience in leading retreats showed in everything we did. Thank you for a wonderful experience and for the opportunity to make new friends.

Alex Roberts

Director of Teacher Training

Alex has been a professional yoga teacher since 2010. He has taught over 16,000 classes, hosted more than 50 retreats across four continents, and as the Assistant Director of Teaching, has trained hundreds of now certified yoga teachers.

His approach to yoga is rooted in his belief that thoughtful technique, consistency, and passion can unlock the potential for increased longevity, vitality and presence. Alex believes that a conscious practice refined with clear instruction can allow bodies to evolve and heal at optimum speed and retain their capacity for movement forever. He also understands that the practice of nurturing and strengthening the body and mind can allow for further exploration of both one’s physical form and the world at large.

Travel is an essential part of that philosophy. Alex is inspired by the idea that “the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” As a premier Yoga Retreat Host, nearly 1,000 guests have joined Alex on international adventures, from watching the sunrise atop Mount Batur in Bali, taking cooking lessons on the Amalfi Coast, scuba diving ancient Greek ruins, roaming the citadel of Machu Picchu, exploring the Taj Mahal, and dancing the Flamenco in Spain. Alex has shown guests that yoga retreats are for more than yoga; they are life-changing experiences filled with adventure, culture, and magic.

Outside of yoga, Alex is a former Division 1 collegiate soccer player, avid surfer, scuba diver, guitarist, and long-distance runner. His passion for movement of all kinds roots his teaching in the idea that yoga can be both athletic and therapeutic when practiced with intelligent guidance. Moreover, by adapting traditional techniques to modern needs and client goals, Alex turns a yoga mat into a laboratory for limitless possibility.

Yoga Teacher + PT Practitioner

During my time as an undergrad at UC Irvine, I did all of my studying from my yoga mat. As a burned-out summa cum laude grad, I took a break from researching the brain and completed my yoga teacher training under yogi and scholar Dr. Mitra Hooshmand. Mitra, a researcher of spinal cord injuries, taught me to respect yoga’s aphorisms while building a strong understanding and love of anatomy, physiology and safety within the practice.

I’ve been teaching yoga since 2014 and have since become even more enamored with the mechanics of the human body. After working in a variety of physical therapy settings since 2019, my teaching style has become more focused on mobility and functional movement. You can certainly expect to encounter traditional yoga postures and attention to breath, but I’ll offer creative and deliberately sequenced transitions to arrive there.

I strive to constantly educate myself and make space for humans of all kinds on the mat, and leading retreats is becoming a large part of that. Experiencing the land, people, culture and cuisine of new places is educational on a level beyond college. On retreats with me, expect a good balance of relaxation and adventure. Life is short, so let’s flow on a beach in Mexico!

Alley Florin

Yoga Teacher + Sound Practitioner

I believe yoga is less about mastering the body and more about coming home to yourself. Through movement, breath, meditation, sound, and community, I create spaces where people can slow down, feel, reconnect, and cultivate a deeper sense of trust and connection within themselves.
