Recovery · Cold Plunge
Looking for a cold plunge near Long Beach?
What to expect from a controlled cold-water session and where Purple Yoga guests can experience one.

Purple Yoga does not currently offer cold plunge at the Long Beach studio. The treatment is available at our Huntington Beach recovery space, a short trip for Long Beach guests seeking a controlled alternative to open-water immersion.
The appeal is precision: known water temperature, a defined session window, a required pre-rinse and staff guidance for first-time guests.
What happens
Cold creates an immediate stress response.
On entry, breathing, heart rate and blood pressure can rise quickly. The first task is not endurance. It is regaining a steady, unforced breathing rhythm while noticing how the body responds.
Your first visit
A simple ten-minute appointment.
Check in
Complete the waiver and discuss questions with the team.
Shower
Rinse before entering; this is required for water quality.
Enter slowly
Keep your head above water and do not force the breath.
Exit early
Leave before intense shivering or loss of control.
What evidence suggests
Recovery benefits depend on the goal.
Cold-water immersion may reduce perceived soreness after strenuous exercise. Research on stress, sleep, mood and immunity is less consistent and often time-dependent. Cold exposure is a tool, not a cure-all.
The evidence
Promising in specific contexts.
A 2025 systematic review found limited potential benefits, with substantial variation in temperatures, durations and participants. It did not establish broad improvements in mood or immunity.
Before you plunge
Cold shock deserves respect.
Ask a healthcare professional before immersion if you have heart or circulation disease, uncontrolled blood pressure, severe asthma, Raynaud’s disease, cold urticaria, neuropathy, are pregnant or have a history of fainting. Exit for chest pain, severe breathlessness, confusion, numbness or loss of coordination.
